I use this metaphor a lot. I wasn't expecting however that I would fail on it myself. The image is the following: a burning house, inside people we need to rescue. What would you do? The answer is obvious; of course save them. You run into house, rush through the door...till you feel the heat. You stop, you realize the overwhelming force you're fighting, and you realize that the heat is too strong for you to possibly even reach the first floor.

The metaphor is that everyone thinks they can and will rush through the burning house and save the helpless people – till you feel the heat. Then, most people stop.

It's a metaphor to always stand by your principles, but more importantly to never underestimate the situation you're in. There's only a small set of humans on this planet, that wouldn't stop. I today realized, that while I thought, I had no limits, I caught myself today, having them. I was not able to commit to something, I just couldn't overcome myself.

Every human believes they are above averagely good, that they could and would fight the flames – but for only a few that is truly the case.
